If you have read my initial blog posts you know that I am a corporate career junky/business consultant.  I have always loved the idea of doing something a bit more create however; the money always called my name louder.  Over the past year I have been consulting under my own business, Jump-Start Consulting and enjoying the freedom it has given me to work from home, travel less and enjoy a little bit more work life balance. I was recently approach by a consulting firm in the DC area regarding a high paying position and have struggled with the age old issue of money vs. freedom.

About this time I met Yvette the woman opening FOUNDRY in DC.  We had many long chats and it was like I met my twin but in the polar opposite body.  We both have over 15 years of corporate experience in running companies, brands and launching new products. Why shouldn’t we run our own company?  She had just “made the leap” and put in her notice at the “big girl job” and basically said “jump with me”.  After much soul searching and many sleepless nights I gave up my secure big girl salary and fancy title to take the leap with Yvette.  We will be joining our companies, FOUNDRY & Stylish Patina.  The brands will stay in tack and there will be many more exciting adventures and surprises to come in the next few months so hold on to your hats DC Metro Area these girls are looking to make an impact!

  1. Great luck to you! I struggle with this same issue…my “big girl” job as a Marketing Director (complete with big girl salary, big girl office, etc) vs investing more time to make my own company more successful! It certainly IS a leap of faith, and very scary but exhilarating!

Knock it out of the park, ladies!

    • Michele I totally get it! Due to how expensive it is to live in the DC area we can’t afford for me not to work so this was a huge leap I hope you can find a way to make it work for you as well but follow us along on our adventures and maybe it will nudge you that way:-) And you can learn from our mistakes! lol

  2. Congratulations!! I’m excited for you and your partner. I wish I had the guts…I will get there.
