General Finishes has launched three NEW Gel Stain colors!
Why Gel Stain? When to use it? Gel stain by General Finishes is one of our top sellers in the shop because you don’t need to strip or sand the existing finish (even though they do in this video below) to change the look of a table top or the top of a dresser. I like the black and grey gel stain but the color Java is our top seller. I can’t wait tot try these 3 new colors! The only tricky thing about gel stain is that it is oil based so it takes a while to dry unlike our other fast drying DIY / decorative paint lines.
General Finishes has a great youtube channel its worth checking out! They have tons of great instructional videos. I love their products the water based top coats are awesome and the metallics are fun too! You can grab them in the shop or buy they in our online shop.
Hello there! 🙂 Both of our steel front door and steel garage door are painted white. We really want to gel stain over the white paint to look like driftwood. We are looking for the Ash Gray gel stain from General Finishes. Do you have this color available and can you ship it? Thanks!!!
Hi! General Finishes gel stains aren’t actually recommended for outdoor use, but their milk paints are rated for outdoors! You can simply “wash” (water down) and layer their paints to get a driftwood-look. I would recommend a combination of the colors Driftwood, Dark Chocolate, and Empire Grey. Here is a link to our online shop where you can order products! https://www.stylishpatinashop.com/collections/general-finishes-milk-paint
Could I combine and play with two color to achieve a lighter gray or beige?
yes!!!!
I am about to work on an old china cabinet that has been painted dark brown. What color gel stain would look you recommend to go over the brown to give it a rustic farmhouse look.
We love your colors and look forward to using your products. Is it available in stores or can I order online.
Thank you!

Gel stain on top of something painted is not going to be the best option. What are you hoping to have it look like?
Good Morning! We have knotty pine bedroom furniture in a “golden”-type stain. Would it be possible to re-stain into a white or off white?
Yes check out our gel stains http://www.stylishpatinashop.com
Thinking of how to use gel stain over cherry cabinets to get a more neutral dark brown color. Wondering if I would need to use an ash color first, then a dark brown. Really need to eliminate the red undertone. Or maybe a glaze instead?
