For those of you who haven’t yet tried Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, now is the time! Her line features some really gorgeous tones, soft and bright, which are sure to transform your piece and space. Check out her color chart…

It really is an easy product to use, despite the misperception that it requires a  lot of prep work. A lot of people also think that it’s strictly for raw wood, but we are hear to tell you: no it’s not!

You can achieve a wide variety of finishes with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. The trick is knowing when to mix in bonding agent and when you don’t have to. If you are painting on a pre-finished surface, be it paint or varnish, and you don’t want the chippy look, it is a good idea to add the in the bonding agent. To be on the safe side, you may choose to lightly sand the surface, just to give the paint some “tooth” to grip on to. For raw wood pieces, you can apply milk paint directly to the surface without the use of a bonding agent.

The most intimidating part of milk paint is the fact it comes in a powder form, but really that only helps the paint to last longer. Unmixed milk paint can last almost indefinitely if sealed properly. Check out how easy it is for yourself:

QUICK TIP: It’s always a good idea to shake the bag before you start scooping the powder and mixing the paint. Because the paint comes as a powder, if you don’t, there is a higher chance of color variations in the paint.

Check out this video for how to use the Bonding Agent:

Once you prep your surface and mix the paint, the process really is so easy and the results are worth the tiny bit of sanding you may have to do!

Happy Painting!
