I swear, about every third house we go into on home tours has this exact dresser! It’s the quintessential piece of furniture that’s just been hanging around forever. You don’t love it, it’s not pretty, but it’s there and it works. So why replace it? We say.. don’t! Repaint that old dresser instead! We’re bringing you this really awesome dresser makeover from Pine and Prospect Home to get your imagination rolling.

We are in LOVE with this fresh take on an old dresser. Instead of repainting the whole shabang, they decided to do a little renovation to the piece at the same time. If you’re looking to do something similar here are the steps!

before and after dresser repaint with jolie

Let’s Get Started!

To begin, start with a bit of stripper to take the stain off the drawer fronts. If you’re not so into those chemicals, you can just sand it right down. You just might go through some extra sanding pads to keep the stain from gunking it up and be sure to wear a mask! If you decide to strip off the stain next you’ll need to sand to bring the finish back to a beautiful raw wood.

Secret tip: Looking for the easiest option? Why not try painting the dresser fronts in a secondary color? With Jolie Paint you don’t have to sand or prep the surface at all, just make sure it’s clean! Repainting the whole dresser is definitely the easiest and quickest option. With a pop of a second color on the drawer fronts -you’ll love it just as much! P.S. you could also hand paint a design (think of this awesome post from our IG for inspiration) or use a stencil to create a fun pattern!

Next Up: Paint the dresser frame. This is so easy and quick with Jolie Paint. You can even do it in your living room! It’s non-toxic, safe for kids and pets and doesn’t smell terrible! Might we suggest one of our favorite nuetrals from Jolie’s line to brighten up your dresser! Eucalyptus, French Grey, Lilac Grey and Linen go with pretty much any decor!

For the drawer fronts: if you’re leaving them with the raw wood look, use a bit of Jolie’s Wax to seal and protect them. If you’re ready to pop in some color try one of our other favorite Jolie Paints to use as an accent! We’re big fans of Noir, Hibiscus or Moroccon Clay.

Finally, grab some of our easy to use Jolie Wax to seal and protect your paint as well. Throw your hardward back on and you’re done! These is such an easy project that you can knock it out in an afternoon. Repaint that old dresser and fall right back in love with it!
