Let me start by saying I am not a Pink girl … I live in black + grey with an accent of gold most days. I like jeans with a black shirt pretty much everyday of my life but for some reason all this crazy stuff going on in the world got me thinking about painting my front door pink. I did get my husband (aka handy hubby) approval before this adventure. Surprisingly he didn’t put up a fight. I thought it would look great against the white brick I painted our house a while back (post about that DIY project here). We recently added black shutters (here is that post) and so I thought it would be a fun way to add a little WOW to the front of the house from the street.
I have lots of other projects that need to be done to front of our house (don’t judge)…walkway, landscaping, plants, railings….but hey it’s easy to change the color of the door and have LOTS of impact.
I used the Jolie Paint line that I carry in my retail store in Falls Church City, Va. (you can buy it online here too). The color is called Hibiscus and it just makes me happy to look at it. I wiped down the door and just threw it on, the best thing about Jolie paint is there is no priming or sanding and that is why I use it on everything. You basically can’t go wrong with it. It is my go to paint line….Learn more about Jolie Paint and our other 2 lines of DIY paint at the shop here. I am always happy to answer questions too just email the shop shop@stylishpatina.com.
I still want to paint one more coat of paint on the door and then I will use our Jolie low luster varnish to seal it. You can’t use wax because it will melt in the sun. You do not have to seal it …I just want to because it will deepen the color a little bit and I think it will be pretty. Pardon my non styled picture I grabbed this one on my phone when I was heading out for a walk with my kids …. we still need to do landscaping and plants on the steps and so much more …but it’s real life not Pinterest over here these days and most days to be honest. There are many many times I don’t do a blog post because I just don’t have time to take all the styled pictures but I am trying to let that go and just share with you what I’m doing at my house and in my life … raw, real life …
I love watching people walk by when we are in the front of the yard and they always comment on the door. I think it makes them happy too!
Happy painting!
