Our house has been a major project since we bought it in 2011.  It was horribly neglected both inside and out.  When we first moved in we worked on the top 2 floors and lived in the basement you can see an old post here.  Then in 2013 we saved some money and decided to do some additional work on the curb appeal and renovating our basement you can see some before pictures here and after pictures of the basement here.

Hubby and I love to be outside and that is probably why we love our house so much.  We live on about a half acre 5 miles from DC.  We have a massive yard both front and back and it’s taken 4 years to get the landscaping in decent shape (we still have tons to do). Here is a before pic of the front of the house by year progression.

To get the front in shape we invested in redoing the walkway which was a major start to the transformation and we replaced the door.  I LOVED our red door but it just wasn’t energy efficient.  You can see the details on these reno projects here.

And finally here we are in 2014! (yes I know the shutters up top are coming this summer….I was trying to hold off to see if we were going to renovate and change the siding).

house 2013

This is our little (yes very little 1250 sq ft on the top 2 floors) Dutch Colonial.  Now here is a little tour of our garden areas.

This area (below) is on the right side of our house we call I the rock garden.  I was really over grown and we have gradually cleaned it out and started planing new colorful flowers.  In about a month or two it will be blooming with Hydrangias!
