This weekend I was playing around with Chalk Paint™ trying to come up with the perfect color for this amazing art deco buffet I got at an auction. I will tell those of you that don’t go to auctions often be sure to check out your furniture before you bid. I didn’t look closely at this guy and when I went to pick him up his leg was cracked! UGH..so frustrating, luckily my husband has a boat load of tools and can fix just about anything. We ended up bracing the leg with two metal plates and she is good as new.
So back to the topic of color! I decided to play with GRAPHITE colored chalk paint by Annie Sloan for this little gem {I love this color}. I started by mixing the end of a can of graphite and poured in the end of a can of pure white. I mixed them up and added a bit of water. I liked the color but needed a bigger batch since this was a good size buffet. I looked around and had a bit of old white in a can so I added that in as well……yes it was a bit of a hodge podge but the color turned out beautiful! It’s a lovely light grey with a hint of blue.
After I did my 1st coat of paint and distressing I decided to add a few white accents so I pulled out my stencil brushes and a can of pure white and lightly added pure white to some of details. Then came a nice coat of clear wax and finally I busted out the gilding wax in King Gold. This has become my all time favorite new tool to add a little something special to project. You can see more about this art deco buffet in the SP Etsy Shop. You can also see her in person at the FC shop she was dropped off today.
One of the many things I adore about Chalk Paint™ is how easily you can mix the colors and create your own beautiful pallet of colors, don’t be limited by the 30 colors we have find you own colors pallet! Happy painting.
