I have no experience with chalk paint. But, I would like to try on an old cupboard that is now needing something besides white chippy paint so I can bring back inside my home. It is so chippy that it “sheds”. So, I’m thinking of doing that piece as well as some “newer” pine pieces that includes my four poster bed. I think the Graphite and maybe cream or white would be good but I think I want to distress the pieces. Can you instruct me or tell me where I can learn how to apply?
Thanks for your help!
PS: I live in Arkansas and if there is anyplace here where I can learn the technique please let me know.
Kary – check out youtube for videos. It’s really quite simple..
1. Sand and clean the items (if it needs it) – you can apply ASCP right on slick surfaces no problem or primer needed.
2. Paint away …depending on the look you want use one or two coats…it drys fats
3. distress is sand paper maybe 150 grit on the edges
4. if you want apply some furniture wax AS of Johnsons (at home depot)
5. buff wax after @ an hour
all done!
Great blog! I have some chalk paint on order, but today I ran across DecoArt acrylic furniture paint hidden in a corner at Michaels, the description seems similar in use, but I can’t find anyone who has used it. Could you let me know how it compares in coverage, tone, sand-ability and adhesion?
