This week’s Before + After comes from Kim of Alexandria. She loves to rescue old furniture, and used Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint for the first time with this project. She fully admits that she is now obsessed with the product!
Tell us about your project:
I found this old sideboard on Craigslist and picked it up in the rain. Wiped it clean but didn’t sand it.
Used Boxwood green (getting green right is very hard, but this shade is gorgeous) and the bonding agent. Removed all hardware first. Gave it two coats, then the furniture wax and antiquing wax, which gave it a little more dimension. There is no chipping but I may still sand it in spots where I was hoping to have some.
Hardware: it was black, so I removed it first, soaking it in distilled white vinegar, then rubbed it with a baking soda and vinegar paste. The handles revealed a lovely brass. The top drawer knobs stayed black, so I replaced them with new mother-of-pearl knobs from Anthropologie. Am relining the silver drawer with tarnish-proof cloth.
I loved doing it so much that I have another sideboard at the ready and may paint it Marzipan.
Great job Kim – it looks beautiful! We have a variety of the MMS Milk Paint products at our Falls Church location. Learn how to do your own before + after with this versatile paint!
