Love a before and after transformation? This week’s is truly that – a transformation. Patra Philips, fellow DIY lover and blogger at The House Enthusiast, submitted this week’s project: a total refresh of a vanity stool, fabric and all.

“I’m a relatively new blogger. Recently I’ve been painting auctioned and unloved furniture and I’m hooked. I live in Dallas, TX with my husband and twin 4-year-old boys,” said Patra. Patra bought the stool featured in today’s post at an auction and gave it some serious chalk paint love.

Here a before shot of Patra’s vanity stool.

“I picked Old White from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint this time. I thought that, with the arms and decorative features of the stool, a nice French County color scheme would look perfect. As you can see, the top of the stool was stained and dirty. It had to go. Also, I hated it. I had some fabric to choose from and, believe it or not, this was a harder decision than the paint color,” said Patra.

“I painted 2 coats of ASCP and then did some spot distressing. I followed up with clear wax… or so I thought. I guess I didn’t clean my brush very well after I had previously used it with dark wax. So the clear wax had a touch of the dark wax on it when I brushed it on. It actually, it looks great! Happy accident,” said Patra.

Annd here is the vanity stool AFTER Patra gave it some DIY love!

I really like the paint job and “happy accident,” but why is the pattern on fabric not centered on the seat? I feel it takes the eye away from the great paint job!
    but….just my opinion.

Because I’m new at this 🙂 Thanks for featuring me and for the constructive criticism!
