This week’s Before & After comes from Lisa in Old Town Alexandria. Lisa suddenly found her tastes in furniture shifting from darker antiques, oriental carpets and wallpaper to the “shabby chic” look. And so began her slow renovation of the 628 sq ft. condo she has been living in for the last 24 years…
Tell us about your project:
Last year, I purchased this adorable blue fabric chair from the Rough Luxe warehouse with the plan to chalk paint it. It was my second project with the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, but the first time I had painted fabric.
To paint my chair, I used the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Antoinette, a pale pink color, on the fabric and Pure White on the wood portions of the legs and arms. I did two coats of paint for both the fabric and the wood and topped each with the clear wax.
I took my time while painting, proceeding at a snails pace. However, I did make one newbie error in not thinning the paint or wetting the fabric. But the good news is, the chair turned out great regardless!
It always helps when you have an adorable, four-legged helper! We are so happy that Lisa enjoyed her project and was able to get the results she was hoping for! We love seeing how people personalize their pieces.
Did you know you could use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to paint fabric? When diluted, the paint will act more as a dye for the fabric, while using the paint directly on the fabric will result in a leather-like feel.
For more information, check out one of Annie Sloan’s tutorials here and then stop in to one of our stores to buy your materials. You can also order them online!
Remember to send us your Before & After pics for a chance to be featured on the blog!
