It’s just about the weekend and we’re sure you’ve started to think about what 4th of July events you might be going to. So what’s the deal this year? Who has celebrations, fireworks and what are the restrictions? Don’t worry -we’ve got all the details. Keep on reading to see what’s going on around Falls Church and our neighboring communities!
Falls Church City July 4th Events
Unfortunately, due to construction at Meridian High School, Falls Church has cancelled its annual fireworks show. The City of Falls Church is hosting an Indpendence Day themed Scavenger Hunt for everyone to partake in instead. With only a map, you’ll learn to navigate this little town all the while finding the 13 historical markers throughout the City. Near each marker, will be a sign, placed by the Recreation and Parks Department. All you have to do is matchthe colonies with their historic sites on the Scavenger Hunt Form and you’ll win a free Declaration Celebration T-shirt.
How do you participate? Download your Scavenger Hunt Form & Map, and turn in the completed form to the Recreation and Parks department at Cherry Hill Park or at the Community Center. You can also email a copy to events@fallschurchva.gov before 6:30 pm on the fourth to get your free T-Shirt.
While you’re Falls Church City, stop by Cherry Hill Park and listen to music. Sudden M. Pac Band will be playing live music from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on July 4th.
Mclean July 4th Events
This year McLean is hosting a new event; the July 4th Ice Cream Celebration Event. Taking place at the Mclean Community Center, guests can enjoy free ice cream, music, patriotic giveaways and more.
This will be a timed event to limit the number of guests at once. Registration is required for the time slot you would like to participate in. Times are availble from 11am -Noon. Noon to 1pm and 1pm to 2pm. Only one registration is needed per vehicle. This event is only open to McLean Community Center district residents.
Great Falls July 4th Events
The Great Falls 4th of July Celebration is bringing you an entire day packed with events of all kinds.
8:00 am: The morning kicks off with a 5K Walk/Run
8:00-2pm: Inova and the Great Falls Volunteer Fire Departent are hosting a Blood Drive all day, walk ins are welcome all day if slots are available.
9:00 am: The Little Patriot Parade. Babies through kindergarteners are encouraged to dress up in patriotic costumes and walk or be pulled in a decorated “ride” around the Green.
10 am: See the fire trucks, floats, horses, antique cars and more making a loop in the Main Parade. Be sure to spot the winning floats for Best Neighborhood, Best Business and Best Organization!
10:30-2pm: Enjoy lemonade, pizza, snow-cones, and other treats, along with music, games, and festivities on the Village Centre Green with your Great Falls neighbors. There will be a special performance by local magician, The Great Zucchini, starting at 12:30pm, along with cool new Hometown Celebration merchandise for sale this year!
6 pm: Head over to Turner Park for live music, games, contests and food trucks until fireworks begin at dusk.
What: Vienna Fourth of July Fireworks
Vienna July 4th Events
Vienna will be hosting an evening of music and Fireworks this year. At 7:30 Big Bad JuJu will provide live music for the evening. Fireworks will be held at about 9:30 (after dark) and guests are asked to wear a face mask if not vaccinated.
The regular Sprinklers and Sparklers event is cancelled this year. Please be aware that Alcohol, chairs, glass containers and pets are not permitted at the fireworks.
Fairfax City July 4th Events
10 am: The City of Fairfax kicks off its 55th Annual Independence Day celebration with a parade at on Saturday morning in Old Town. This year’s parade includes nine high school marching bands and inflatable parade balloons, as well as floats and clowns. Commemorative 4th of July T-Shirts will be on sale Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., on the steps of City Hall. The theme of this year’s T-Shirt is “One Flag. One Hand. One Heart.” Commemorative baseball caps will also be available for $10.
6:30 pm: Enjoy an evening of music and dancing followed by fireworks at Fairfax High School stadium. Due to COVID-19 restoration, there will be no children’s activities this year. Items that may puncture synthetic turf are not permitted on the football field. In addition, smoking, alcohol, and animals, with the exception of services animals, are prohibited on the football field. In case of rain, only the fireworks will be presented on Monday, July 5.
Washington D.C. July 4th Events
The National Park Service will once again host the annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration on the National Mall, the nation’s most important civic space and home to more than a dozen memorials that commemorate great Americans and significant events in our nation’s history. The display will be held on Sunday, July 4, starting at 9:09 p.m. and will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The National Park Service said that consistent with CDC guidelines, people who are not fully vaccinated must wear masks indoors and in crowded outdoor spaces on the National Mall. Masks are required for everyone on all forms of public transportation. All the memorials, except the Washington Monument, will be open.
People visiting the National Mall for the fireworks should practice social or physical distancing, staying at least six feet away from others who are not a member of your household, according to the NPS.
Additionally, the 41st annual A Capitol Fourth concert be presented as a pre-recorded show due to the pandemic, in lieu of the traditional live concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The nation’s 245th birthday celebration will feature host Vanessa Williams hosting and performing from Washington, D.C. with all-new pre-taped performances from locations across the country will feature top stars from pop, country, R&B, classical and Broadway. Capping off the concert broadcast will be live coverage of the fireworks display over the National Mall by multiple cameras stationed around the city.
