It has been a week since we had our twins and boy has it been a crazy ride. We named them Liam Duncan Thompson, 5 lbs 3 oz (boy) and Peyton Millspaugh Thompson, 6 lbs 15 oz (girl). Based on the weights and how they were trending throughout the pregnancy the last 3-4 weeks Liam’s placenta wasn’t working he ended up being pretty darn small compared to his sister. He was always larger than her up until a few weeks before they were born.
The process started out pretty uneventful last Friday morning we went in for a scheduled c-section and I was blessed to have the 3 female doctors in the practice I saw to all be there for my delivery. They have been so patient with me especially the last month when I landed myself at the hospital a couple times. It was wonderful to have them there to bring our little guys into the world. All initially went as planned and our big girl came out first quickly followed by our small little guy. Once they were born the doctors had a bit of extra work to “put me back together” and I ended up loosing a bit more blood than planned. All in all I was delivered to the recovery area in one piece and my hubby and babies were waiting for their momma.
The next couple days were uneventful in the hospital and our little guys did great. We started calling Liam “Benjamin Button” because he looks like a little old man. We can’t wait to fatten him up!
We went home Monday late afternoon and everything seemed to be fine. Tuesday morning I started feeling poorly and took my blood pressure to find it was really high.
I was having other symptoms as well that were not looking so great. We took the kids to the pediatricians office and I was really struggling. My doctor called me back while we were at the pediatricians office and had them take my pressure and sure enough it was through the roof so off to the ER I went. My new babies and their dad stayed home and my mom brought me to the ER.
Next thing I knew they were admitting me back to the hospital for pregnancy induced high blood pressure. Apparently this can happen up to 6 weeks after you deliver! That night they had to hook me up to a medicated IV and give me oral meds to try and manage the blood pressure. It was terrifying. My husband and dear friend took care of the babies at our house that night and then they came back into the hospital with me the following morning. We were in the hospital for another 2 days while they figured out the best way to manage my blood pressure. Finally I was release and headed home. I’m not out of the woods yet but the meds I’m on now seem to be working so finger crossed we won’t be heading back to the hospital again any time soon.
As we get settled I’ll be sharing some pictures of the little guys. They are both in great heath and thriving!
Wow Kelly. You have been through a war! Please take good care of yourself, We are praying for you, all of you. The babies are precious and your husband looks right at home holding them. What a beautiful family you have.
Oh my sweet lady…giving birth to one is hard, never mind TWO babies! They are gorgeous and a BIG blessing from our Lord. Please take care and blessings to you too; as you need to be strong for the cuties. I can see dad is overjoyed!!! Congrats to the lucky parents.

FABBY

The babies are so precious! Congratulations! I am glad to hear you are doing better now. Hopefully all the bad part is over and you can get on with the joy of being a mom.
I’m so sorry you’re going through all that-I went through it too-post partum preeclampsia…but exactly 6 weeks after delivery my blood pressure went right back to normal and I was off the pb meds. Scary, but thankfully only for a short time! Be well and enjoy those beautiful babies!
thanks beth for sharing your story! So scary but hoping it will jump back to normal at 6 weeks!
Good job with those babies. Nice.

They are adorable. God’s little blessings.
Kelly, I come to Rough Luxe every month and follow your blog, which I shared with a friend who has 8 year-old twins, a boy and a girl. They are lovely. She asked if you were aware of/a part of Northern Virginia Parents of Multiples? She said it is an AMAZING group and provides so much support. Hope all is well!
