On colorful Monday today we are going to talk about color mixing with Chalk Paint®.  This can also be done with our Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint however; today I am going to share with you a couple of my favorite mixes and a cool tool you can play with.

When I mix paint I tend to just dump it together with pints that I have less than a half of a can left of in the back of our work shop.  It gets pretty confusing so now we take sharpy markers and write the mix on the can to make sure we don’t get them mixed up (b/c of Kelly:-)

When you read the information online about mixing paints one part to two parts etc. I wanted to explain what a “part” is.  A part is just whatever you are using as your standard measuring tool it could be a teaspoon or a cup that is your “part”.  So if it says 1 part old white and 1 part coco and use are using cups then it’s one cup of coco and one cup of old white mixed together.

One of my many favorite mixes is 2/3 Florence and 1/3 Aubusson Blue mix.  Here is an image of a dresser we have in the shop with this mix.

If you are interested in color mixing thier are two great resources: 1. Annie Sloan Color Recipes Book which we carry in the shop and online.  I adore this book and think it is full of amazing inspiration.  Annie is a color mixing master so it’s by far the most accurate resource for you to use 2. the Purple Painted Lady Blog has come up with a color mixing online tool that lets you plug in your colors and “parts” and gives you a feel for the outcome color.  It’s a really cool tool that is fun to play around with!
