Today I wanted to share a little before and after of a piece we have in this months Rough Luxe Market (RLM), June 26-28th. I bought this vintage wash basin a month or so ago and never got around to breathing new life into it. I kept thinking someone would buy it and see the potential I saw. I was hoping it would be purchased by someone that would paint it a lively color for a patio or even could be cute in a kids room or a make shift bar.
No one saw the vision so she was painted in preparation for this months RLM. The theme is “off to the lake +vintage Americana” so I decided to paint her something neutral so that she could be used in many homes/spaces (something you have to think about when you sell furniture:-). The girls and I decided on old white chalk paint®. Sarah painted her up last Monday and I came in this Monday and was going around distressing pieces we had painted last week and just felt this guy needed a little more dimension. I ended up using a wash of french linen chalk paint over top to just give it a bit more interest. I also popped on this colorful knob for fun. Now he/she is done and ready for many a porch party, kids room or man cave ….
How do you apply a wash you ask? It’s easy just water down the chalk paint super thin, apply the paint over the piece and then wipe off the excess paint while it is wet. This is truly a creative process and you have to you work with it and meld the paint to get the look you are wanting. Conceptually it’s an easy technique but takes a bit of practice.
