This week’s before and after project was submitted to us all the way from Portland, Oregon. The creator of this stunning transformation is Diane Grover, a fellow DIY painter and blogger over at The Paint Factory. Diane takes pieces that are (absolutely stunning) damaged or worn and gives them new life as painted furniture. We love the way she works with the lines of a piece, painting some parts and not others. And her color mixing is unexpected and beautiful.

On to her project – an antique vanity with quite a bit of damage (it is hard to see in this photo). Here is the before shot.

10511240_704237446296290_1060735297883884230_nNow, Diane does like to preserve the original wood when she can, and what results is a truly one-of-a-kind creation. For this project, she chose to mix Napoleonic Blue, Antibes, and Graphite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

Diane then selected the spaces to paint, and the spaces to leave wood. After painting was complete, she used General Finishes Van Dyke Glaze and General Finishes Java Gel stain.

The resulting project is simply stunning. Are you ready to see it? I don’t know if you are. Maybe take a deep breath…exhale. Okay, now you are ready. Ta-da!

Bravo, Diane, Bravo! A well-thought-out, beautiful piece.

    The Before is better.
The piece looks to be in great shape. I’m not so much a fan of covering beautiful wood w/paint.
Your piece is gorgeous. And it does come down to, each to her own.

I love the colors you used. It’s beautiful!

Exactly what colors did you use ? Love it !

  4. Debbie Mangum says:

Absolutely gorgeous! Truly inspirational to beginning “re-creators” like myself.

  5. Brenda says:

I prefer the before. Painting over this type of antique, interferes with and devalues the furniture. The piece in its original state is much better looking.

  6. I know the extra work in painting a two-toned piece of furniture. KUDOS on a job well done! This is stunning!

I love this. I have a similar, altho not as fancy, 3 piece bedroom suite. The brown of these pieces overwhelms a room so I can see why you painted this. I noticed in the before picture a matching chest of drawers. Will you paint this to match the dressing table? I’m interested in how all three pieces would work with a similar treatment in a room. Would all that painted furniture overwhelm the room in a similar way as all that brown does now? Did you mix equal parts of paint colors to get your final color, or did you paint in layers?

    Amazingly perfect job!
